Paul Pogba
On Saturday night, Paul Pogba made his long-awaited return to the football pitch. His comeback allows him to join a select group in Ligue 1.
The highlight of Ligue 1’s 13th matchday will be remembered as Paul Pogba’s return to action after more than two years away from the game. Despite AS Monaco’s heavy defeat at Stade Rennais, Pogba enjoyed a truly special moment as he stepped back onto the pitch. The Frenchman has now joined a very exclusive circle in Ligue 1.
According to Opta, the former Juventus man has become the third French player to feature in Ligue 1 after winning the World Cup, following Steven Nzonzi with Rennes in 2020 and Lucas Hernandez with Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. But that’s not all, as highlighted by the Stats Foot account.
Pogba has also become the 17th member of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad to play in Ligue 1 since their triumph in Russia. Antoine Griezmann now stands as the only French World Cup winner never to have played in Ligue 1.
