Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 12
GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle, and sub-editors Raphaël Jucobin and Bastien Cheval face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. This season, GFFN will also be hosting guests. Earlier this season, The Athletic’s Alex Barker participated and became the first name on our guest leaderboard, and he has since been joined by Julien Laurens. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

This may be as good a time as any to face PSG. Les Parisiens lost against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night in what was a disastrous night. Achraf Hakimi came off injured and will miss two months; Ousmane Dembélé came off and will miss at least a couple of weeks; and Nuno Mendes sustained a knee injury that will also sideline him until at least the international break. In short, it is a disaster for PSG. Perhaps it wouldn’t be consequential if they weren’t playing against a team as solid as Lyon. But this is a really diminished PSG side, one wounded both literally and metaphorically after a demoralising defeat, which sums up an underwhelming couple of months. They were lucky to edge past Nice last week, thanks to a goal in the 94th minute from Goncalo Ramos. OL will be pragmatic and well-organised and look to nick a goal on the break. It could be the right recipe against what, by recent standards, can be called a struggling PSG side.
Lyon drew against Brest last week but played almost the entire game with nine men. You can’t judge them on that. At least they sealed up their defence, something they desperately needed to do after shipping three against Paris FC in midweek. However, with a midweek trip to Real Betis coming up, there will be a fatigue factor for Paulo Fonseca’s side. Regardless, you really have to give OL a good chance against PSG, even if their recent record against the reigning champions is atrocious.
