‘Like a funeral’ – Real Madrid squad struggling to recover from Atlético defeat | OneFootball

An insight into the current atmosphere in the first-team squad at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Monday been provided.

This of course comes fresh off a defeat which will live long in the memory of Los Blancos over the weekend.

Real Madrid made the short trip across Spain’s capital on Saturday, to lock horns with city rivals Atlético.

The visitors head into proceedings with spirits high in the camp, after a flawless opening to the campaign to the tune of seven wins from seven across all competitions.

When all was said and done at the Metropolitano, however, Real were brought crashing back down to earth with a thud.

After establishing a 2-1 lead during the first-half in the derby, an ensuing collapse culminated in Xabi Alonso’s troops being put to the sword by five goals to two.

And if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then Los Merengues are evidently having a tough time in bouncing back.

As per a report from The Athletic, in fact:

‘Sources who travelled with the team (for the upcoming Champions League meeting with Kairat) said the atmosphere was “like a funeral”.’
