Lionel Messi back in Rosario to rest with family and support his father | OneFootball

Lionel Messi has arrived in Rosario to take a family break and attend to his father’s health, and he will not resume action with Inter Miami straight away. According to L'Équipe, the Argentina captain has returned home following the World Cup.

After Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain after extra time in the final, Messi flew back on Tuesday and landed in Rosario at around 6.30 on a private flight. He was accompanied by his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their three children, then headed to the house he usually uses in the area.

His trip is not solely for rest. His father Jorge, 68, who is also his agent, has been dealing with health issues, a situation his entourage disclosed after Argentina’s opening match against Algeria, when Messi appeared very emotional.

Messi is expected to take time out, missing at least Inter Miami’s next two fixtures, scheduled for 26 July and 2 August.

He will also be absent from the MLS All-Star Game on 29 July in Charlotte.
