Earps, who retired from international duty on the eve of this summer’s Euros, released her autobiography earlier this month.

The goalkeeper revealed in the book how she told Wiegman that she was rewarding “bad behaviour” by recalling Hannah Hampton to the England squad after dropping her for being “disruptive and unreliable”.

Earps’ book has sparked a backlash and Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor spoke in defence of Hampton at the start of this month.

Former players and pundits have also waded into the debate, but Wiegman is not concerned about it causing a divide among her squad.

The Lionesses are in camp next week for the first time since Earps’ book was released, with England hosting China at Wembley before taking on Ghana in Southampton.

I want my door to be open at all times to have conversations when that is needed, or when someone needs support

“I am not worried about that,” said Wiegman, when asked about Earps’ book being divisive.

“I think in teams there is always dynamics going on. You are working with people and everyone is different.

“So, no matter what topic there is, there is always conversations going on. Sometimes you need some more effort in it, sometimes a little less effort in it.

“You just want to be open and I want my door to be open at all times to have conversations when that is needed, or when someone needs support.

“And the other way around if I need to challenge a player for whatever reason, I will do that, too.

“So in general, there is always conversations going on and we are always trying to get everyone with their nose to the same direction when we go on the pitch.”

Wiegman has spoken to Hampton, who misses out on this England squad due to injury, since the release of Earps’ autobiography.

The England boss has not spoken to Earps, though, but did stress how she “really enjoyed working” with the goalkeeper before her retirement.

“I feel good,” said Wiegman. “We have conversations, we always have conversations.

“I have conversations with different players all the time and what my reality is, someone else’s reality can be different because of how you experience things. That is very individual.

“I just know what I want to do is create an environment where we speak up, where I give clarity, where I always communicate with players when it is necessary. And also, I make decisions to win.”

Wiegman was vindicated in her decision to make Hampton her new No1 for this summer’s Euros, with England retaining their crown.

And asked if she would have done anything differently in the wake of Earps’ comments in her book, Wiegman said: “I think I would have done exactly the same thing and we kept communicating every time.

“As always, we tried to support in the best possible way. I just can’t control how it comes across.

“And there are always learnings, but I don’t think in the bigger picture, I would have done things differently.”
