In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus mentioned that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land Ajax left-back Jorrel Hato. It has been stated that the Reds would have to rival Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race to sign the Dutch defender.

Hato’s Impressive Campaign In Dutch Football

Hato enjoyed a decent campaign at the Dutch club as he produced a run of impressive displays on the left side of their backline. The Dutch talent was involved in 50 matches for Ajax last season, scoring three times and earning six assists on all fronts.

The 19-year-old performed his defensive duties well after he made 58 tackles, 35 blocks and 22 interceptions in the Dutch Eredivisie. He even distributed possession relatively well based on his pass success rate of 89.4% in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Reds to win the race for him on the cheap this off-season.

Is Hato A Good Fit For Liverpool Boss Arne Slot?

Hato is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can also engineer some inviting chances for his teammates from the left flank. The Dutch sensation is an energetic runner with the ball as well.

Hato mainly functions as a left-back but can also fill in as a centre-back if required. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League.

Hato is already good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club. He would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s match-day squad.

At 19, the future looks quite promising for Hato. Hence, he would be an excellent fit for Liverpool‘s needs in the long run. However, Slot has to be patient with his progress before he can get the best out of the gifted full-back at Merseyside.
