In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to compete with Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in pursuit of the English centre-back this summer.

Guehi’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League

Guehi enjoyed a solid campaign at the London club after he produced a run of impressive performances on the defensive end of the pitch. The English talent scored three times and earned a couple of assists in 44 matches for Crystal Palace last season across various competitions.

The 24-year-old was a solid presence at the heart of Oliver Glasner’s backline as he made 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back after he completed 83.5% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Guehi’s current contract at Selhurst Park will run out at the end of next season. Hence, the Reds could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.

What Will Guehi Bring To Liverpool?

Guehi is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears his lines when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.

The English sensation proved himself to be one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League and deserves a ton of credit for helping the Eagles win the FA Cup last season. Hence, he won’t take any time to settle into life at the Merseyside club.

Guehi would undoubtedly improve the quality of Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s match-day squad. He might even help the Reds compete for a lot of major silverware over the next decade.
