In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Liverpool are facing tough competition for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to rival Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the English centre-back this off-season.

Branthwaite’s Impressive Form In English Football

Branthwaite had a solid campaign at the Merseyside club as he was responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old picked up one assist in 33 matches for the Toffees last season across various competitions.

The 23-year-old made 36 tackles, 31 blocks and 27 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 82.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Merseyside club will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Liverpool would have to launch a convincing offer if they are to stand a chance of signing Branthwaite this summer.

What Will Branthwaite Add To Liverpool Boss Arne Slot’s Side?

Branthwaite is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from the back.

The English sensation can even use his powerful 1.95m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. He already knows the Premier League well and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Merseyside club.

Branthwaite would add more bite and steel to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s defence. He is good enough to serve as an ideal, long-term successor to Ibrahima Konate who is about to enter the final year of his contract at Anfield.

At 23, Branthwaite has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a great choice for the Reds to pursue in this summer transfer period. He might even help Liverpool compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. Therefore, the Merseyside giants should focus on going all out to bring him on board soon.
