In a recent interview, former scout Mick Brown claimed that Liverpool are keeping a keen eye on Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Brown said,

“Liverpool and Tottenham have both been watching Van Hecke.

“I used to think he was a solid defender but not much more than that, but to be fair to him, over the last season or two he has really improved his game.

“He’s showing every week for Brighton that he is better than just an ordinary defender, and that’s what’s highlighted his talent to these other clubs.

“Those are two very attractive options for him and something I’m sure he will take notice of if they are going to make a move for him.

“Liverpool have been keeping an eye on him because of their situation, and if he becomes available for whatever reason, they may well make a move.

“Tottenham also want reinforcements and he’s somebody who has been on their radar for a while.

“If Brighton keep struggling like they have been recently, then that opportunity might come up.”

Van Hecke’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football

Van Hecke has enjoyed a solid campaign at the English club as he has put in a run of impressive performances for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net three times and earned one assist in 18 matches for the Seagulls this season on all fronts.

The Dutch sensation has been a rock at the back for Brighton as he has made 28 tackles, 30 blocks, 15 interceptions and 87 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession accurately from inside his half, based on his pass completion rate of 86.5% in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

What Will Van Hecke Add To Liverpool Boss Arne Slot’s Side?

Van Hecke is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.89m, Van Hecke can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Merseyside club.

Van Hecke would no doubt add more quality and depth to Liverpool
