Liverpool are increasingly confident they can strike a deal to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer, according to a report from Rousing the Kop. As Arne Slot begins to shape his first full season in charge, a new central striker has become a pressing priority — and Isak has emerged as the standout target.

The need for a more reliable presence through the middle has only grown clearer in recent weeks. Both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have struggled for consistency and fitness, and with Nunez expected to move on — likely to the Saudi Pro League — Liverpool are seeking a clinical, composed finisher.

Isak fits the bill. The 25-year-old Sweden international has been in prolific form, scoring 24 goals in all competitions this season for Newcastle, including the winner in the Carabao Cup final — ironically, against Liverpool.

Rousing the Kop states that despite Newcastle’s efforts to tie him down to a new contract, Liverpool “are understood to hold a belief they can land their man.” While negotiations are expected to be difficult — both in terms of fee and Newcastle’s reluctance to sell — Liverpool remain confident that their long-standing admiration for Isak can tip the balance.
A stumbling block may emerge if Newcastle succeed in offering Isak a significant wage increase. The forward is reportedly on a deal that does not reflect his current value or form. Discussions over new terms are ongoing at St James’ Park, but if no agreement is reached, Liverpool are believed to be ready to pounce.
Sources close to the Anfield club believe Isak would thrive under Slot’s high-possession system and could be the long-term solution to Liverpool’s centre-forward conundrum.
While Isak remains the top priority, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on other striking options. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko have both been assessed, with internal analysis ongoing. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has been linked, though the report suggests he is not currently seen as a front-runner despite a reduced asking price of under £50 million.

If this comes off, it could be the signing that defines the next chapter at Liverpool. Alexander Isak has all the tools: pace, movement, intelligence in tight spaces, and a knack for scoring in big moments. He’s not just another option — he’s the elite-level striker this side has needed since the decline of Firmino’s peak years.
For many fans, watching Nunez’s inconsistency and Jota’s injury setbacks has been frustrating. There’s no questioning their effort, but what Liverpool need now is precision — someone who can finish the chances created by the likes of Szoboszlai and Diaz week in, week out. Isak brings that.
Of course, there’s a concern about Newcastle digging in, especially given their European ambitions. But if we’re serious about backing Slot and evolving this side, these are the kinds of deals we have to push through. The idea of Isak in a red shirt at Anfield is mouth-watering — let’s hope it happens.
