Liverpool have confirmed that Ibrahima Konaté will leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires on 30 June, bringing an end to a five-year spell at Anfield.

The French defender departs after talks over a new deal broke down following more than 18 months of discussions between both parties. Konaté’s exit comes as Liverpool begin a new chapter, with changes already underway in the coaching setup following the recent departure of Arne Slot and his staff.

Signed from RB Leipzig in 2021 for around £35 million, Konaté quickly established himself as Virgil van Dijk’s primary defensive partner. Over the course of his Liverpool career, he made 183 appearances across all competitions and played a key role in several trophy-winning campaigns.

During his time at the club, the 27-year-old lifted the Premier League title in 2024/25, along with the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, while also featuring in the 2022 Champions League final.

Liverpool are already planning for the future in defence, with young French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet arriving from Rennes in a £60 million deal. He is expected to compete with Giovanni Leoni for a starting place, while Joe Gomez remains an experienced option in the squad.
