Liverpool’s admiration for Yan Diomande makes sense. The 19-year-old has delivered 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances for RB Leipzig, serious output for a winger in his first full Bundesliga season.
Asked by Kicker whether he plans to stay at RB Leipzig next season, Diomande reportedly gave a clear “yes.”
“I’m under contract in Leipzig and I enjoy playing here,” he added.
That matters because Liverpool have been linked with the Ivory Coast international, but this feels like a player who recognises the value of timing. Leipzig signed him from Leganes for around €20 million last summer, gave him a platform, and have watched his value rocket.

For Liverpool, this is where recruitment logic meets market reality. Diomande fits the profile, young, explosive, productive and still developing. Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have shown they can blend elite structure with attacking freedom, which would naturally appeal to a player of his type.
However, RB Leipzig are not sellers under pressure. Reports suggest Liverpool may be prepared to go as high as £75 million, while Leipzig value Diomande at around €100 million. That gap is significant, especially for a teenager with one standout Bundesliga season behind him.
Diomande did leave the door open in the longer term.
“Everyone has ambitions, including me. My dream is to play at the highest level possible.”
That line will interest Liverpool supporters, but it should be read carefully. Ambition does not always mean immediate movement. Sometimes it means another year of development, another year of Champions League level exposure, another year becoming the player elite clubs already think he can become.
His wider comments also show why a summer transfer may be difficult.
“My contract here is until 2030, so I have four more years,” he explained
“What’s going to happen afterwards? I don’t know. I am a Leipzig player. I will never forget this opportunity. It’s not only about playing football, but the club helped me a lot off the pitch. The media only sees me on the pitch, but the club helped me a lot with my family and my mom.”
“The only thing I can do for them is to give everything on the pitch and this is what I’m trying to do every day.”
For Liverpool, Yan Diomande remains one to monitor. For RB Leipzig, he is an asset to protect. For the player, staying put may be the smartest move of all.
