Liverpool boss Arne Slot has confirmed that Mo Salah will miss this weekend’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League due to injury.

The winger was taken off in the 74th minute of the Reds’ 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday after taking a knock during the game. It has now been revealed that he sustained a muscle injury.

The 33-year-old missed a penalty in the first half of the round of 16 second leg, but later went on to score his 50th goal in the competition.

Slot is hopeful that Salah will recover during the upcoming international break and be available for their next fixture. They face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, 4th April.

“It’s unusual [for him to ask to come off],” the Dutchman said at his pre-match press conference. “As a result, you can expect the outcome that he is not available for tomorrow.

“The good thing for us [Liverpool] that we go into an international break, but the bad thing for him is that he can’t go, but we are hoping that Mo can recover.

“He’s shown in the past that he does that faster than other players. He takes such good care of his body. It’s only two weeks until we are back again, we can hope in that period of time he can be back.”

Meanwhile, Joe Gomez will not start against Brighton on Saturday after being an unused substitute against Galatasaray.

“Joe was on the bench but he was unable to come in,” Slot added.

“We tried to postpone it as far as we could, he had already told me before the game that he didn’t feel good. So I said okay, let’s wait until half-time, maybe a miracle might happen, we might need you in extra time, so he might be available for tomorrow, but definitely not to start.”
