Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with yet another late show, Mohamed Salah’s stoppage-time penalty sealing a 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Arne Slot’s champions looked set to drop their first points of the campaign until substitute Hannibal handled Jeremie Frimpong’s cross deep into added time. Salah, unflustered, dispatched the spot-kick in front of delirious travelling fans to keep Liverpool top of the table.

Significantly, record signing Alexander Isak, a £125m arrival from Newcastle United, was left out of the squad as he continues to build fitness. While Isak managed to play around 20 minutes for Sweden during the international break, he was not deemed fit enough to be involved today. Slot, however, later confirmed, as reported by BBC Sport, that the Sweden striker will be involved in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid.

Burnley frustrated Liverpool for long spells, with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka producing fine saves from Dominik Szoboszlai. Federico Chiesa headed wide moments after his introduction, while Lesley Ugochukwu’s late red card left the hosts clinging on.

For Liverpool, the pattern continues: four league wins, all secured by goals in the closing stages. From Rio Ngumoha’s 100th-minute strike at Newcastle to Szoboszlai’s late free-kick against Arsenal, Slot’s side are proving as relentless as they are resilient.

Burnley, meanwhile, suffer the cruellest of déjà vu, undone by a stoppage-time penalty for the second successive league game. Parker’s men may take pride in their discipline, but Liverpool’s refusal to be beaten is becoming the defining story of the season so far.
