Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield, as Mohamed Salah reached a major milestone with his 250th goal for the club.

The breakthrough came in first-half added time when Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s misplaced clearance fell straight to Salah, who calmly slotted into the empty net from the edge of the area.

Ryan Gravenberch, making his return from an ankle injury, added Liverpool’s second in the 58th minute. The Dutch midfielder’s left-footed strike from outside the box took a deflection off Pau Torres and wrong-footed Martinez.

The visitors, who came into the game chasing a fifth straight league win, went close twice in the opening stages. Morgan Rogers curled an effort against the post after five minutes, before Matty Cash’s deflected strike was tipped onto the bar by Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo both threatened for the hosts before Salah’s landmark goal gave Liverpool a deserved lead heading into the break.

After the interval, the Reds controlled the tempo and limited Villa to few clear chances. Substitutes Donyell Malen and Jadon Sancho both tested Mamardashvili late on, but the Liverpool goalkeeper stood firm to ensure a clean sheet.

The win ended Liverpool’s four-match losing streak in the league and lifted them up to third in the Premier League table, seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
