Manchester City are claimed to have joined their Premier League title rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Newcastle United and England star Anthony Gordon this summer.

Officials from the Etihad Stadium are widely understood to be open to the idea of securing fresh recruitment in the wide attacking roles in Pep Guardiola’s side, despite their first signing of the summer starring wide for club and country.

Girona loanee and Brazil international Savio is set to sign on to a five-year contract with Manchester City in the coming weeks, and coaching staff at the club will get their first opportunity to assess his talents during pre-season.

While Manchester City are understood to have spent in excess of £40 million on the 20-year-old ESTAC Troyes forward, fresh information has linked the club with a separate big-money move on a wide attacker closer to home.

According to a new report from Football Insider, Manchester City have joined title rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Newcastle United and England international winger Anthony Gordon this summer.

It is claimed that the Premier League champions have now ‘registered their interest’ in landing a deal for the former Everton forward, while Pep Guardiola is said to want to bring in a “lethal” forward, who can provide a cutting edge for the squad.

Manchester City are only second to the party when it comes to Anthony Gordon this summer, with Liverpool already having turned down a proposal from Newcastle which involved the forward moving to Anfield with Jarell Quansah heading in the opposite direction.

It is claimed that officials tasked with the reinforcement of Arne Slot’s side did not view the deal as being right for them ahead of the new campaign, despite the exciting 23-year-old forward being a player that they admire.

Other players in wide roles linked with Manchester City have been difficult to come by this summer, although there have been tenuous links to the likes of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who was swift to reject the idea of a Santiago Bernabeu exit in the coming months.
