The parade along the 10 mile (15km route) is expected to last 3-5 hours, meaning it could end anywhere between 5:30-7:30pm.  It is likely to be more towards 7:30pm based on previous parades and the numbers expected to attend.  Many roads along the route will be closed so it is advisable not to drive, or if you do to park a distance away from the route.

The Strand will be closed going north from the Upper Parliament Street and Great George Street junction along to the Leeds Street and Great Howard Street junction from 4am through to 10pm.  Going south the roads will be closed from midday to 10pm.  Additionally Leeds Street will close from midday to 10pm heading towards the city.

It will be the first time fans will be able to see a title winning team parade the trophy since 1990 and the first time a Liverpool team will have paraded the Premier League trophy.  Despite winning the Premier League for the first time in 2020 there was no parade that year due to covid restrictions at the time.  Fans did gather unofficially in the city center in 2020 but without the team parading with the trophy it simply wasn’t the same.

This years route is almost identical to the previous parades in 2022 (for winning the FA Cup and League Cup) and 2019 (for winning the European Cup).  Based on those previous parades we can expect around half a million people will turn out to watch across the route.  Some state there may be up to a million people, it would be over double the residential population of Liverpool if that is the case.  It will be around 5 times (or more) people than attended the various Man City title winning parades – it’s nice to support a proper club isn’t it.

If you are not able to attend in person the parade will be broadcast on LFCTV Go and socials channels including Youtube and Facebook.  You can also watch on LFC TV via Sky (channel 423) or Virgin Media (channel 544).

Best Places To Watch The Parade

The Strand during the 2022 parade

The parade is free to attend for all ages but there are no dedicated viewing areas – it is about finding the best space along the route to watch.  The earlier you get there the more chance you have of getting a good spot but note that the weather is expected to be hot and dry so bring plenty of food and water and scout out options to go the toilet if you are expecting to wait for hours.

As there are no dedicated viewing platforms it is worth noting that if you have accessibility issues or a disability it is advisable to get there early and watch somewhere along Queens Drive where the wide boulevards should provide space to find a spot.  The people of Liverpool are friendly as we all know and if you do have accessibility issues simply speak up, people will move to accommodate you in most cases.

Personally I will be watching at the start of the route at the Allerton Maze end.  This is mostly because I live close to that area and I have young children and so do not want to wait hours in big crowds.  You can actually see the bus a little earlier than the start at Allerton Maze as it will come along Mather Avenue (that is where the first picture on this page was taken).  It will be going slow enough that you can see the trophy and players but a little faster than on the actual route but useful if you want to see the bus without waiting long and with minimal crowds.

As mentioned, for space somewhere along Queens Drive will be your best option as it a long and wide road.  Remember people will start to follow the bus the further it goes so the earlier along the route the better generally if you want to avoid the heaviest of the crowds.

If you are purist and you want the best atmosphere and you are not concerned about a long wait and deep crowds then The Strand may be your preferred option.  I would avoid taking very young children to The Strand, however, and as stated get there early and be prepared for a long wait.  If money is not a concern then you may be able to get a vantage point from a hotel or restaurant along the route, but if you are thinking of booking a spot at a restaurant, bar or hotel along the route you will likely find everything is already fully booked.

What To Bring And Not To Bring

Flares are likely even though they are banned, to avoid them go earlier on the route

Remembering it is likely to be a hot and dry day make sure you bring food and water and sun cream.  If you are watching along a more open section of the route, such as parts of Queens Drive, you might be able to bring some fold up chairs too.  Of course, don’t forget to bring your camera or phone for pictures.

The use of flares, pyrotechnics, or anything similar is strictly prohibited, as is the use of drones.  Unfortunately it is likely some will ignore this and there is a strong chance you will see some flares along the route but a strong police presence should help in deterring a lot of it.  If you want to avoid the flares then I would recommend not watching along The Strand.  In previous parades this is the section with the biggest crowds and most flares, the density of the crowds stops police from intercepting everyone lighting flares in that area.

The problem with flares is they can actually block your view.  What is the point in waiting hours if you can’t see your hand in front of your face by the time the bus comes.  The picture above shows my view as the bus drove up to Anfield before we beat Spurs to win the title.  I waited for an hour and by the time the bus came I could barely see it and I could barely breathe too.

If you bring food and drinks (and you should) then please remember to take your rubbish home with you.  This is our city, we are proud of it just as much as we are proud of the reds winning the league.  Let’s not wreck it and leave the mess for others to clean up.  This will be shown around the world so lets show the best side of ourselves.
