Sunday was a chastening day for Liverpool once again.

The Premier League champions are on a run of only four wins in their last 12 top-flight matches - without a win in their last two against relegation candidates Wolves and Tottenham.

Spurs came up with a late equaliser against the Reds at Anfield on Sunday with Richarlison bundling the ball over the line in added time.

Liverpool’s attackers had failed to generate enough clear-cut chances to put the game beyond doubt following Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener in the first half.

Although Rio Ngumoha was bright the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz failed to light up Anfield - with Hugo Ekitike and Mohamed Salah faring no better from the bench.

And one player was barely given any time to impress in the case of Federico Chiesa.

Italian media says Chiesa was humiliated

Following Richarlison’s leveller Arne Slot immediately swapped out Alexis Mac Allister for the 28-year-old Italian forward.

Despite having one good involvement in the box late on Chiesa was unable to register a decisive action in the scant game time he had on the pitch.

That substitute appearance has now been described in the Italian media as a “humiliation” by a “desperate” Arne Slot. Chiesa didn’t have a hope of making a real impact in such a short amount of time on the pitch.

“Chiesa still humiliated by Slot,” reads a report in Virgilio Sport.

“Just after Richarlison's equalizer in the 91st minute, Liverpool manager Arne Slot remembered Federico Chiesa was on the bench and threw him into the fray almost out of desperation, hoping for a dramatic turn of events from the former Fiorentina and Juventus player.

“It didn't come. Chiesa, who came on for Mac Allister, had only one chance to play the ball, which fell to Ekitike in the penalty area: his teammate ruined everything by having his shot blocked by a defender.”
