The striker has missed Liverpool’s last four games
Alexander Isak looks set to be available for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Manchester City this weekend.
The striker has been included in the Sweden squad for their World Cup qualifier with Switzerland a week on Saturday, and their clash with Slovenia three days later.
Former Chelsea and West Ham manager Graham Potter is now in charge of the Sweden national team having replaced Jon Dahl Tomasson who paid the ultimate price for a poor start to World Cup qualification.
Potter’s decision to include Isak - and not Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres - in his first Sweden squad suggests the Liverpool star is winning his battle to return to full fitness.
Isak has not featured for Liverpool since the 5-1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month as he was substituted at half-time due to a groin complaint.
Subsequently, the 26-year-old has missed the Reds’ last four games across all competitions - including back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid as Arne Slot has steadied the ship following an alarming slump in form.
Slot is expected to provide a further update on Isak during Friday’s pre-Man City press conference, though the signs are positive regarding a return to the squad.
"With Alex we have to wait and see. Definitely not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be involved in the squad,” Slot revealed on Tuesday.
"He is still not training with the team, so we have to wait and see."
In Isak’s absence, Hugo Ekitike has lead the line in the last two games and will be expected to do so once again at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool go into that game on the back of an impressive win against Real Madrid in midweek and are seeking to record a third straight win against Pep Guardiola’s side after completing the double over them last season without conceding a goal.
