It looks like Liverpool have been thwarted in their attempts to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
Although Richard Hughes was the technical director who signed the 25-year-old for the Cherries back in 2023, the current Liverpool sporting director hasn’t been able to get a deal over the line for the Ghanaian.
Instead it looks like Semenyo will be heading off to Manchester City any day now with Pep Guardiola’s side triggering his £65m release clause.
And if Liverpool aren’t careful they could be about to miss out on the signing of ANOTHER top African star.
Yan Diomande, 19, has been a revelation since swapping Leganes for RB Leipzig last summer. The deal cost the Bundesliga side only £18m - with the Ivory Coast international inking a deal until 2030.
But the winger’s form has been so good for Leipzig in the first half of the season - not to mention for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations - that he’s already been linked with a move onwards.
Liverpool are reported to be interested in Diomande but are facing competition from several top English and European teams for his signature.
“Liverpool, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all vying for the Ivorian prodigy,” a report on Africafoot reads.
However unless the Premier League champions begin to move quickly for the prodigy then they could LOSE him to manager-less Man Utd.
Although it wasn’t initially thought that Diomande would move on this winter it looks like United could end up coughing up the necessary funds to get a deal done in January.
“Manchester United's board has offered RB Leipzig €90 million to sign the young Elephant,” the report continues.
“A meeting took place this week between the clubs' directors to discuss the matter.
“RB Leipzig has also given Manchester United permission to discuss contract details with the player's representatives.”

The report goes on to detail Man Utd’s offer of a five-year contract for Diomande on a salary of €3.5m per annum - just under £60k per week.
Leipzig have been reported to value their emerging talent around the €100m mark but could now be ready to offer Man Utd a discount in order to get a quick deal over the line this January.
A price of €90m (£77m) might end up being terrific value for one of the game’s fastest rising stars - who has scored six goals and added three assists in the German top flight this season.
