Liverpool have held talks over a summer deal for RB Leipzig attacker Yan Diomande, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Liverpool could lose both Mohammed Salah and Federico Chiesa at the end of the season, and manager Arne Slot wants a ‘high-class’ replacement.

The Merseysiders had Bayern Munich attacker Michael Olise on their radar. However, they have moved on to Diomande as a deal for the Frenchman is not realistic.

Liverpool must be ready to break the bank as Leipzig are demanding up to €100 million.

Diomande is also being watched by Bayern, but his price tag has kept them away.

He has bagged ten goals and seven assists in 26 appearances this term, and the Reds believe he has what it takes to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

He could be perfect for Liverpool as they look to bounce back from a woeful domestic campaign, but signing him is not a given.

They may have to qualify for the Champions League next season to have a chance of pipping other clubs in the race to sign him.

The Reds are currently sixth in the league table and will need to improve significantly across all areas if they want to play in the elite European competition next season.

The disappointing league defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday has left some fans fearing the worst, and major squad changes are needed this summer.
