Arne Slot has pencilled in Liverpool’s clash against Nottingham Forest as the return game for a key player
Liverpool are poised to receive a major injury boost ahead of their return to Premier League action.
The Reds went into the final international break of the year on the back of a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, falling eight points behind leaders Arsenal in the process.
On an afternoon where very little went right for the reigning Premier League champions - including Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed goal - they were, at least, able to welcome back Alexander Isak from injury.
Isak had sat out the previous four games in a row with a groin problem. While he did not get on at the Etihad Stadium, he has since returned to action for Sweden, playing the final half hour of their 4-1 loss to Switzerland on Saturday.
As a result, the Merseyside outfit are nearing a clean bill of health as Arne Slot prepares for the visit of Nottingham Forest to Anfield at the weekend.
Liverpool’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper has been out of action since September 30 after limping off during the 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Alisson Becker has subsequently missed the last eight games across all competitions, in addition to sitting out the two most recent Brazil camps.
The good news for the Reds is that Alisson is expected to be available for selection against Forest, and it is likely he will replace Giorgi Mamardashvili in between the posts.
Potential return date: November 22, 2025 vs Nottingham Forest (H)
Jeremie Frimpong limped off after just 19 minutes of Liverpool’s 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22 and has been out of action ever since.
Initial reports claimed the summer signing was facing up to six weeks on the sidelines, meaning he should be available for selection again during the first week of December.
Speaking in the pre-Man City press conference, Slot delivered an update on the Dutchman: "Alisson for sure and I expect Jeremie [Frimpong] back after the international break as well because we play from November until March!
"But I don't expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this."
Potential return date: December 2025
Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni faces a year out of action with a serious knee injury.
The 18-year-old centre-back was hurt on his first appearance at Anfield against Championship side Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup as he landed awkwardly following a late challenge in the 2-1 win.
He received treatment on the pitch and was eventually stretchered off, with subsequent tests revealing an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Slot has recently confirmed that Leoni will be on the sidelines for around a year having torn his ACL.

“He’s not in a good place, of course,” the Reds boss said. “He tore his ACL which means that he will be out for around a year.
“Being so young, coming to a new country, playing so well in your first game, it’s very hard to take the positives. You always try to look at the positive side and that is that he is still so young.
“He still has so many years to go after he recovers from a terrible injury like that.”
Potential return date: Late 2026
