Fabrizio Romano claims that the Reds lodged a nine-figure offer for the RB Leipzig star, who has shone in the Bundesliga this season and impressed in Ivory Coast’s World Cup opener against Ecuador as well.

The Reds have earmarked Diomande as a priority target as they look to strengthen their final third as Andoni Iraola embarks on a new project at Anfield.

The Spaniard has replaced Arne Slot in the dugout on Merseyside after the Dutchman was sacked, and he has already welcomed a first arrival of the new era to the club as Victor Munoz was confirmed as a Liverpool player on Thursday.

Breakout star: Yan Diomande

The Reds spent £34.5m on the Osasuna winger, hijacking Newcastle United’s move for the Spanish international, but the Merseysiders are not done in overhauling their wide areas.

David Ornstein reports that Liverpool informed Leipzig that they were willing to pay a package worth €100m for Diomande’s services, while Romano went one further, saying that the German club had turned down the Premier League side’s approach for the 19-year-old.

It is said that Leipzig want north of €100m to sell their star asset, with €120m mooted as a potential benchmark fee.

The Bundesliga outfit are hopeful that Paris Saint-Germain and other European giants begin a bidding war for the forward, although The Athletic claim that Liverpool are also exploring alternative targets should prising him away from the Red Bull Arena prove too challenging a task.
