Could Wirtz also attract the next generation of Germans to Liverpool? Clearly Jurgen Klopp had a profound influence on how Liverpool are viewed in the country.
Now Germany's best player representing the Reds only makes Liverpool an even more attractive destination.
So, in light of this situation it's interesting that TEAMtalk are reporting that Liverpool are among clubs to have checked in on Lennart Karl of Bayern Munich.
The 17-year-old sensation could be the next Wirtz and while he has an agreement in place to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich, it is unlikely that he will remain with the German giants for his entire career.
Liverpool's interest in the player therefore is fascinating.
Like Wirtz, Karl is a sublimely technical attacking midfielder who is full of tricks and who is just a joy to watch. He is not the tallest but he is very creative and he scores goals.
He is very much your typical no.10.
Now, right now, Liverpool have Wirtz so there is no need for Karl. But in the coming years if the system and formation changes, there could be a place for Karl at Anfield.
For now, it's clear he will stay at Bayern. But the fact that Liverpool have their eyes on him would suggest he is a player to keep an eye on.
Liverpool had their eyes on Wirtz for many years before pulling the trigger to sign him. And they could repeat this extraordinary deal to sign Karl in the future.
