Last summer was arguably the biggest transfer window in Liverpool’s history.

The club spent over £400 million, bringing in seven new players and breaking the British transfer record twice in the same window.

Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak both moved to Anfield for over £100 million, forming the foundation of Arne Slot’s new look attack alongside Hugo Ekitike.

The squad building, led by Richard Hughes, should set Liverpool up as a team that can compete at the very top of football for years to come and the Reds are showing no signs of slowing down with a potential deal for Kylian Mbappe now on the cards.

Mbappe could finally be on his way to Anfield

Real Madrid’s season has been overshadowed by drama off the pitch.

Xabi Alonso left the club part way through his maiden season in the Los Blancos dugout, and training ground issues have persisted all season.

The drama in Madrid came to a head last week when Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni clashed, leading to Valverde needing hospital treatment.

The chaos in Madrid has led to plenty of speculation around the future of the club’s biggest star, Mbappe, with an online petition calling for the Frenchman to be sold now reaching over 30 million signatures.

With the 27-year-old's future so uncertain, a report from Football Insider has now linked Liverpool with an ambitious move for the World Cup winner.

The report claims that Mbappe’s future won’t be decided until after Real Madrid’s next manager has been confirmed, but that several Premier League clubs including Liverpool are ‘on alert’.

A deal for Mbappe seems unlikely, it would require a massive transfer fee and the forward currently earns a reported €600,000 (~£525,000) a week.

That figure is eyewatering, and would shatter Liverpool’s current wage structure, but the Reds showed they are willing to break the bank for the right player last summer and Mbappe is certainly a player that could be worthy of breaking the bank for.

Liverpool have previously tried to bring the superstar to Merseyside, but the current chaos unfolding in Madrid could lead to Mbappe finally making the move.
