Liverpool have been disappointing this season, and they must improve.
The transfer window is the perfect opportunity to strengthen a squad that has struggled to find form this campaign, and the Reds’ recruitment team are now starting to action their summer plans.
Multiple positions need to be addressed in the window, with player sales likely dictating which areas of the pitch are prioritised.
A deal to bring French central defender Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield has already been announced but Liverpool are expected to make several more signings.
One of the biggest priorities for supporters will be Arne Slot’s attack, and Liverpool’s first new forward could soon be announced.
As is usually the case when the transfer window arrives, Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of attackers, ranging from some of the world’s best and most expensive stars to obscure wonderkids who are considered future prospects.
One of the most exciting names the Reds have been linked with in recent weeks, Bazoumana Toure, falls somewhere in between those two categories.
The Ivorian winger has become an integral part of the Hoffenheim side that narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification this season, and now he could be Liverpool bound.
That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk that claims Liverpool have made a formal approach for the 20-year-old, who is valued by Hoffenheim at around €40 million (~£35m).
Manchester United are also reportedly interested, with multiple Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the Ivorian’s situation.
Hoffenheim’s failure to qualify for the Champions League will make it hard for the German outfit to keep hold of the electric winger this summer, and Liverpool now appear to be accelerating their interest.
Although he can play across the front line, Toure is primarily a left-winger and could replace Cody Gakpo in Slot’s side.
Gakpo likely won’t be going anywhere, but may be relied on more as a centre-forward with Hugo Ekitike expected to be out until Christmas.
Toure’s pace and excellent crossing ability would make him an excellent addition for the Reds, and the young forward could be exactly what the team has been missing this season.
