Liverpool have no plans to move for the Crystal Palace defender in the January transfer window

Guehi was set to complete a move to the Premier League champions having completed a medical and agreed a five-year contract.

Furthermore, Liverpool had submitted a deal sheet for the Crystal Palace captain to ensure a move was finalised even after the summer transfer window had officially closed.

However, Palace pulled the plug on negotiations at the last minute as they could not find a suitable replacement for the 25-year-old.

Guehi has since been away with England on international duty and after scoring his first senior goal in the 5-0 thrashing of Serbia on Tuesday night, he was asked to sum up the what the past eight days had been like.

Speaking to ITV, he said: “It’s been great.”

“It’s always easy coming here, we’ve got such a good group of players, good group of staff,” he added when asked about joining up with the England following the failed move to Liverpool.

“We’re working towards one goal, so it’s really enjoyable and always good to be here.”

Guehi, who was left angry at not being able to finalise a move to Liverpool, must now refocus on club matters with Palace back in Premier League action at home to newly-promoted Sunderland at the weekend.

The centre-back’s contract at Selhurst Park expires next summer and with him unlikely to sign a new one, he will leave as a free agent unless an interested club convinces him to move elsewhere in January.

Amid suggestions Liverpool will revisit their interest in Guehi in January, it is understood that they will instead wait until the 25-year-old is available on a free transfer next summer, once his contract expires on June 30, 2026.
