Liverpool are pointing the finger for the real reason Arne Slot is under so much pressure. Not all will agree.

Arne Slot has been under an incredible amount of pressure in 2026. Jurgen Klopp certainly never faced this much of it, and you have to go back to Brendan Rodgers at the end of the 2014/15 campaign to see something similar.

Liverpool decided to stick with Rodgers back then, supporting him through another transfer window to get things on track. After all, he'd been unfortunate that season and deserved another chance after the brilliant 2013/14 campaign.

Well, history repeats itself. Liverpool will afford the same luxury to Slot, seeing him through another window to right the wrongs.

The Athletic, though, claim the Reds see things differently to most. They suggest that the pressure Slot is under is unfair because of an under appreciation for the title win.

That under appreciation means Slot faces more pressure than he really should be. The argument here is that he's got too much in the bank to be ditched after one poor campaign.

It's a stance that not all will agree with. It's also what happened in 2015 with Rodgers, only for Liverpool to back down on their idea the following September and hire Klopp.

Rodgers hadn't won the title in 2014 but he'd finished second, and came ridiculously close for a team never expected to be in the race. But he did get the same number of points that season as Slot won the title with.

Once again, then, a good campaign buys a coach an extra year to get things right. Let's see if things go differently this time around,
