Liverpool would prefer to keep Harvey Elliott as part of their squad this season despite interest in the midfielder from RB Leipzig.
Elliott has explored an exit this summer in search of regular first-team football. He started just twice in the Premier League last season, each of which came after Liverpool had already won the title under Arne Slot.
Having starred for England during their success at the u-21 European Championship this summer, where he was named Player of the Tournament, Elliott has attracted interest from clubs in England and Europe.
RB Leipzig have made the 22-year-old a top target, with Elliott seen as an ideal replacement for Xavi Simons. The latter is expected to join Chelsea with talks ongoing over a deal worth around £60m.
Journalist Ben Jacobs is reporting that Liverpool would prefer to keep Elliott, but accept his desire for a greater role. However, Leipzig are yet to meet the Premier League champion’s valuation of the midfielder.
Liverpool are understood to be demanding a fee between £40m and £50m for Elliott, who has made 148 appearances for the Reds since joining from Fulham in 2019.
