Liverpool are set for another busy summer in the transfer market, with several deals expected.

A number of arrivals are needed to freshen up Arne Slot’s squad and some sales will likely be necessary to facilitate summer spending.

The Reds are clearly a team in transition and could use players in multiple positions, having already confirmed a deal for French defender Jeremy Jacquet.

Richard Hughes and Co will be looking to add some players with Premier League experience, and the reigning champions could once again look to relegated sides to bolster their numbers.

It is a method that has worked well for the club before, with Andy Robertson, Xherdan Shaqiri and Georginio Wijnaldum all joining from relegated sides, and Hughes could be looking to recreate that success.

Liverpool to battle Manchester United for relegated star

Wolves relegation has already been confirmed, so their summer planning can begin early.

The club are expected to sell multiple first-team players as they drop into the Championship, and Liverpool are reportedly keen to bring one to Anfield.

Joao Gomes is a name that has been linked with a Merseyside move all season long, and now the Reds are preparing to step up their interest.

That’s according to a report from Caughtoffside, which claims that Liverpool and Manchester United are leading the race to sign the 25-year-old, with Ateltico Madrid and Crystal Palace also in the race.

Although Wolves initially valued the Brazilian at £60 million, the report states that a fee of around €45-50 million (~£39-44m) is more realistic now that the West Midlands club have been relegated.

Liverpool could lose a midfielder this summer, with Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo’s futures looking increasingly uncertain, and Gomes represents a good value option.

His pressing ability and dynamism are highlighted as qualities that the Reds are particularly fond of, and the report states that Gomes is open to an Anfield switch.

With Wolves’ drop already confirmed, this could be a deal that is over the line quickly and Liverpool will be hoping to beat Man United to Gomes’ signature early in the window.
