Liverpool are reportedly accelerating a move to complete a sensational deal.

Hugo Ekitike picked up a really nasty achilles injury against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, and everyone at the club is now clearly concenred about his future.

Not only is his season over, but he’s also set to miss the World Cup and a big chunk of next season too.

Right now, it is expected he is set to miss at least nine months, which is an awfully long time in football.

Out of all the new signings, Ekitike was the one who settled in the quickest. He looked comfortable straight away. 23 goal contributions in his first season is a really solid return, especially in a campaign that hasn’t exactly been smooth for Liverpool.

He’s already become one of the main faces of this new-look team, and fans have taken to him.

But now Liverpool must find a successful masterplan without him.

Which is a worry.

Take Ekitike out, and the squad suddenly looks pretty thin. There’s Alexander Isak… and not much else. Federico Chiesa is expected to leave, Mohamed Salah will already be leaving, and Jayden Danns just can’t be relied on fitness-wise.

All of a sudden, Liverpool’s attacking rebuild just got even bigger this summer. And to do that, Liverpool could be making a signing that could shake-up the entire Premier League.

Last summer's Isak saga was relentless for Liverpool.

For a large majority of the window Isak dominated the headlines. He made it clear to Newcastle United he wanted to go. He made it clear he wanted to join Liverpool.

It just took a bit of time, and the offer of a huge amount of money to convince Newcastle to sell him. The move shook up the entire league. It was a record-deal and the likes of which we thought we would not see again.

But it looks like the saga will be back.

In fact, Richard Hughes may be coming for yet another Newcastle player this summer. With the way things are going Liverpool's next Isak transfer is becoming more and more obvious and it's clear that it's Anthony Gordon.

According to TEAMtalk Ekitike's injury has now accelerated Liverpool's plans to bring in an extra forward.

And this has led to one name being 'firmly' back in the frame and this name being Gordon, who has impressed the club with is ability to play across the frontline this season.

Gordon has always been on Liverpool's radar. He used to be at the club's academy and his family is very much a Liverpool supporting family despite Gordon playing for Everton.

Back in the summer of 2024, Gordon was also courted by Liverpool but back then the Reds' attempts were rebuffed.

This time around with no Champions League football for Newcastle, they might not be able to deter the Reds' attempts.

And if they can't this is a transfer that could transform the entire league. Not only will it demonstrate Liverpool's dominance but also cause further ire in Newcastle and among Everton fans as well.

Getting Gordon will set the status quo and show that Liverpool are no longer just a force to be reckoned with, but the force to be reckoned with.
