Liverpool REJECTED in centre-back contract talks

It’s no secret that Liverpool are preparing moves at centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window. Virgil van Dijk has been secured to a new contract until 2027 but all around him there is uncertainty in the department.

We could see Ibrahima Konate leave - with a contract expiring in 2026 and no breakthrough yet reached over a new deal. If Liverpool do not succeed in tying the French defender to the club this summer then he could well be moved on.

Jarell Quansah, meanwhile, is attracting significant transfer interest despite falling out of Arne Slot’s plans. The homegrown defender is a target for up to six Premier League clubs while reports in Germany have also linked him to the Bundesliga.

Joe Gomez too is unsure of what the future holds. The 28-year-old is Liverpool’s longest-serving player but is currently injured and was deemed transferrable last summer.

It’s not inconceivable that all three senior centre-back options aside from Van Dijk leave in the off-season, necessitating a complete rebuild for Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes.

Liverpool seeking centre-back reinforcements

Potential candidates to arrive include Jorrel Hato, Marc Guehi and Piero Hincapie - with Liverpool requiring numbers and quality at the back.

The fees needed to land those stoppers could spiral out of control and there are indications that the Reds made a play for bargain reinforcements ahead of the window opening.

TBR Football is claiming that Liverpool have held conversations with PSV mainstay Olivier Boscagli in the past few weeks. ps

The Frenchman is out of contract this summer with the Eredivisie title winners and has established himself as one of the best players in the division over the last couple of seasons.

Liverpool miss out on Olivier Boscagli

He played 30 times for the Eindhoven club this season in the league - as well as impressing in the Champions League, where he captained his side to a victory over the Reds in January.

The 27-year-old has been attracting significant transfer interest due to his status as a free agent, with several Premier League clubs including Liverpool said to be interested.

“Liverpool, Tottenham and Bournemouth have all had conversations with the PSV Eindhoven defender and his camp in recent weeks,” reads a report.

However, there is set to be transfer frustration for all of those parties with the revelation that it is Brighton who are going to announce Boscagli’s signature for next season.
