Slot Faces Goalkeeper Dilemma

Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge without Alisson Becker, who pulled his hamstring during the shock 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray. Arne Slot confirmed the Brazilian will miss both the Chelsea clash and likely the visit of Manchester United after the international break.

“It depends on how fast the recovery goes, so it’s clear that he is not going to play for Brazil,” Slot said. “I will be surprised if he [Alisson] will be there for the first game after the international break. From there on things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s difficult to say the amount of days and weeks. For the upcoming games he will not be apart of us or the Brazil team.”

With Alisson unavailable, summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is primed for his Premier League debut. The Georgian already featured off the bench in Istanbul and started in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton. Freddie Woodman is set to provide backup.

Ekitike Hopeful of Featuring

Hugo Ekitike also limped off in midweek, although Slot remains confident the French forward could still take part. Alexander Isak was likely to start regardless, returning to lead the line alongside Mohamed Salah who was rested from the starting eleven in Turkey. Alexis Mac Allister and Conor Bradley also emerged from the bench and should return to the XI.

Injury Concerns in Defence and Midfield

Federico Chiesa missed the Galatasaray defeat with what Slot called a “little niggle” and will be assessed. Giovanni Leoni’s situation is far more serious, the young defender has undergone surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained on debut. Slot expects him to be sidelined for close to a year.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup

Mamardashvili, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Isak.
