Liverpool suffered a late setback at the City Ground as Florian Wirtz was withdrawn from the starting line-up minutes before facing Nottingham Forest, with Curtis Jones drafted in.
According to Nottingham Post, the German international had been due to start the Premier League fixture as the Reds continue their push for a Champions League place.
Wirtz has been one of Liverpool's standout performers over the past two months, so his absence arrived on a pivotal day for both clubs. Forest are seeking breathing space from the drop zone after West Ham were held by Bournemouth yesterday.
Liverpool are chasing the top four and were lifted by Chelsea's home draw with Burnley yesterday, one of their top-four rivals.
Today also marks Vitor Pereira's first home match in charge since succeeding Sean Dyche as manager. He oversaw a 3-0 Europa League win over Fenerbache in midweek.
A Forest victory today would complete the double over Liverpool, after their 3-0 success earlier in the season.
