Following a disappointing 2025–26 season, will Arne Slot still be Liverpool FC’s manager next season? One thing is certain: at present, it seems difficult to say for sure. Not least because, even within the Reds’ management, the Dutchman’s future does not appear to be secure.

So much so that Richard Hughes is said to have already been sounding out the managerial market to find a potential successor. More importantly, according to French media Foot Mercato, the Merseyside club’s sporting director is said to have identified AFC Bournemouth’s soon-to-be-departing manager Andoni Iraola (who is set to step down next June) as a prime candidate should Slot leave.

A familiar figure to Hughes, who had himself brought the Spaniard to the Premier League, offering him the Cherries’ dugout in 2023.

Having enjoyed an impressive season, capped by a historic European qualification with the south coast club, Iraola is reportedly seen as the man who could help Liverpool return to the “heavy metal football” recently sought for by Mohamed Salah (33). Whatever happens, summer promises to be red-hot at Anfield.
