Liverpool have garnered a reputation for seeking out high-value transfers from across the market in recent years.
Whether it is signing players from relegated sides, like Andy Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum, or signing players in the last year of their contract like Thiago, the Reds have an eye for smart business.
Richard Hughes and his recruitment team will be looking for more low-fee players with high upside this summer in an attempt to strengthen Arne Slot’s side.
There are several names that could fall into this category, but one of them is a former Liverpool target who last moved for £73 million.
Jadon Sancho was once one of the most promising prospects in world football.
The Englishman was touted as a future Ballon d’Or winner during his time at Borussia Dortmund but has failed to reach the same heights since his £73m move to Manchester United in 2021.
The Englishman has spent time at a number of clubs on loan in recent seasons, most recently with Aston Villa this campaign.
Now, the 25-year-old will be available on a free transfer this summer as his deal with Man United expires, and Liverpool should considering giving him a fresh start in the Premier League.
Multiple Premier League sides are reportedly interested, including Villa who are keen to keep Sancho around.
Competition could be fierce, but Sancho is an appealing prospect who could resolve problems for Liverpool on both wings.
At only 25, there is still plenty of time for the Englishman to reach his peak and, with no transfer fee involved, a move to Anfield would be fairly low risk to all involved.
With Federico Chiesa likely to depart this summer, there is a clear space in Slot’s squad for Sancho, and the player would have plenty of opportunity to earn a starting role.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will act on their previously-held interest, but Sancho definitely fits into the category of a high-value transfer for the Reds.
