- Marc Guehi's proposed £35m transfer from Crystal Palace to Liverpool collapsed at the eleventh hour.
- Crystal Palace pulled out of the deal after failing to secure their preferred replacement, Igor Julio, who opted to join West Ham instead.
- Although Palace signed Jaydee Canvot, the 19-year-old was not considered ready to immediately step in for Guehi.
- Palace now face the risk of losing Guehi on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.
- Liverpool, despite their frustration, still have four specialist centre-backs for the upcoming campaign, including new signing Geovanni Leoni.
