Liverpool Admire PSG Star Barcola but Door Firmly Shut on Summer Move

Liverpool and Bayern Interest Not Enough to Sway PSG

Liverpool’s admiration for Bradley Barcola is understood to be long-standing, with the 22-year-old winger having impressed across Ligue 1 and the Champions League since joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. According to FootMercato, both Liverpool and Bayern Munich have identified the France international as a player capable of slotting directly into their respective starting XIs.

However, PSG’s position is unwavering. Club officials have reportedly communicated that Barcola is not for sale under any circumstances this summer. The winger, who joined the Parisian club for €50 million from Lyon at the close of the 2023 window, is seen as central to Luis Enrique’s project.

Barcola himself shares that stance. Sources close to the player suggest he remains committed to continuing his development at the Parc des Princes. Despite the January arrival of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Barcola is considered an integral part of PSG’s attacking rotation.

Performance Levels Drawing Continental Attention

Barcola has delivered 21 goals and 19 assists in 58 appearances across all competitions — his most productive campaign to date. His blend of direct running, positional flexibility and goal involvement has attracted scouts across Europe, with both Bayern and Liverpool keeping detailed performance logs since mid-season.

Although he was inconsistent at times, Barcola’s ceiling remains high. PSG believe his potential is still untapped and have prioritised continuity over short-term capital gain.

Project Continuity Favoured by Club and Player

Luis Enrique, reshaping the squad after a period of churn, is placing emphasis on a young, dynamic core. Barcola, alongside Vitinha and Zaïre-Emery, forms part of a nucleus PSG are reluctant to disturb. The player, reportedly content with his role and development path, is not pushing for a move.

As such, Liverpool and Bayern may need to reassess targets. For now, Barcola remains firmly off the market.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Liverpool supporters, the Barcola news is both frustrating and strangely reassuring. Frustrating because Barcola would have been a perfect fit. Young, versatile, productive — and above all, progressive in his movement and decision-making. He feels like the type of wide forward Arne Slot would have moulded into something even more complete.

But it is reassuring in the sense that Liverpool are clearly targeting players with ceiling and suitability, rather than relying on reputation alone. Barcola has the profile to slot into the front line and rotate with the likes of Luis Díaz or Cody Gakpo, while offering something slightly different with his ability to cut inside, press intelligently and create space off the ball.

Still, this summer is about strategic additions, and if the club view Barcola as ideal, then it suggests the recruitment direction remains intact post-Klopp. The fact that PSG won’t sell him — and that he doesn’t want to leave — may delay rather than destroy Liverpool’s interest. Whether it’s now or in 12 months, this link may resurface.

In the meantime, Liverpool will need to pivot, but supporters should be encouraged that the club are casting their net at this level of quality.
