Liverpool are not prepared to part ways with Cody Gakpo, who is wanted by Tottenham, according to The Evening Standard.
For the Reds, the current focus is on strengthening their frontline rather than weakening it ahead of the new season.
Liverpool are exploring a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, but with PSG valuing the French winger at a staggering £145 million, any potential deal remains complex.
Until Liverpool can recruit top-tier attacking reinforcements, they are unwilling to even entertain talks for Gakpo.
Furthermore, prising the 27-year-old away from Anfield would prove financially daunting for any suitor. Gakpo still has four years remaining on his contract, putting Liverpool in a strong negotiating position should their resolve be tested.
Tottenham are eager to add firepower to their squad. Despite having spent £237 million on six new arrivals this summer, De Zerbi insists that Tottenham’s transfer business is not yet complete.
Despite a relatively underwhelming campaign last season, when he scored fewer than 10 goals across all competitions for the first time since 2020/21, Gakpo has been identified by Spurs as a primary option on the left wing, though he can also be deployed as a striker.
The Dutchman is currently with compatriot Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby as the Reds continue their pre-season tour of the United States.
After wins over Sunderland and Wrexham, Andoni Iraola’s side looked set to make it three victories in a row as they raced into a 2-0 first-half lead against Leeds, before conceding four unanswered goals in the second period.
