Salah has already announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, with his farewell tour in the Premier League beginning in last week’s 2-0 win over Fulham.

The 33-year-old netted at Anfield but was back on the bench for the Champions League quarter-final second leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Salah is likely to reclaim his place on the right-hand side of the trio behind the main striker, while Cody Gakpo could be tasked with leading the line as Alexander Isak is unlikely to start back-to-back games in the space of five days.

"It's nice to have Alex back, although we also know that he is not ready to play 90 minutes yet,” Slot told reporters in the pre-match press conference on Friday.

Elsewhere, Joe Gomez has been ruled out which means Jeremie Frimpong should start at right-back despite coming off at half-time against PSG.

Alisson Becker will miss a sixth game in a row through injury, thus handing Giorgi Mamardashvili a first taste of a Merseyside derby.

Curtis Jones, sent-off in the last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park last season, is an option in midfield should Slot opt to play Wirtz as a false nine.

Liverpool predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Gakpo
