Slot, Liverpool and Crystal Palace: Post Match Raw lays it bare

First half fury

On Anfield Index’s Post Match Raw, the mood turned bleak fast. Host Guy Drinkel opened the floor and Dave Hendrick set the tone, “I’m furious because I’ve just spent the better part of two hours watching an absolute sack of [__].” Karl Matchett matched that anger, “today was the first half today was like the Burnley game except the other team try to score,” adding, “There was no movement, there was no energy, there was no pace to our game.”

Crystal Palace earned their flowers from both, with Karl bluntly assessing the gulf on the night, “We should lost their game about 4-1. There’s only one reason that that game went to injury time in the first place and that’s Alisson Becker, isn’t a normal goalkeeper and any other goalkeeper in the Premier League in goal, at the very least, we’re already two down, probably more like four down.”

Dave pushed the same point and widened the lens, “the only reason it’s even a game is Alisson Becker,” before stating, “we haven’t played well for the majority of games this season,” and warning supporters to stop hiding behind models, “Stop looking at your spreadsheet. We have not been good defensively this season. We’re far too easy to play through… our midfield is a sive.”

Right side problems and selection calls

The right side became a running sore in the conversation. Dave did not sugar coat it, “the right side of our defense today… was an embarrassment,” then, on Conor Bradley, “that’s… not even a championship level performance. That’s league one level stuff.” He folded others into the critique, “you can include Gravenberch, you can include Salah. Every one of them stinking the place out.”

Karl’s view of the changes was stark, “Frimpong today looked like he was runner up in the raffle… he was awful,” and on Milos Kerkez, “He was my most annoying player throughout the entire game,” detailing the late mis-clearance, “Clear it with the right foot… instead, he spins all the way around… it was just ludicrous today.”

When the conversation turned to Arne Slot’s set up, Dave explained the structural risk, “there’s three issues… he’s very clearly changed multiple people’s roles for this game… and then you’re doing it away at Crystal Palace… Crystal Palace are one of the best transition teams in the league.” He noted how the tilt to the right strangled the build-up, “everything was going down the right… and then everything gets really clogged.”

Missed moments, speed of play and set pieces

Specific incidents came thick and fast. On Ibrahima Konaté’s first half miss from a corner, Dave said, “Dom’s corners today… were outstanding,” then the verdict, “put it on target.” Karl kept circling back to tempo, “speed of play is the single biggest issue that we have at the minute on and off the ball.” That theme ran through Liverpool’s inability to control transitions or generate clean chances.

The equaliser offered a brief glimmer. Dave called it plainly, “it’s a poor cross and it’s a worse defensive header… it just puts it on a plate for Chiesa,” praising the finish, “just get it on target.” The hosts then lamented Liverpool’s game management, with Dave summing up the closing spell, “That last 10 minutes up to their goal… absolutely drove me to despair… either go and try and win the game or just take this thing out of the game… We did some weird in between thing.”

Karl’s breakdown of the late concession was forensic, from the throw in to the second ball and the loose marking, “he completely leaves him… it’s awful. It really really is awful.”

Big picture from Post Match Raw

Hendrick also delivered a barbed reminder about how Liverpool talk about their own, “This is our fault though… We do not do nearly as good a good enough job at building up our truly great players,” pointing to how Alisson’s heroics get lost when results turn. On players who needed a reset, there was little ambiguity. Dave’s verdict on selection was uncompromising, “he could have taken off half the team and nobody would have griped.”

Across the show, the names and details mattered as much as the emotion. Slot, Liverpool and Crystal Palace framed the debate, and the contributors held the line on what they saw. “There was no movement, there was no energy,” said Karl. “We’re far too easy to play through,” said Dave. The message to Liverpool was clear, from Post Match Raw to the training ground, fix the speed, fix the structure, and stop gifting transitions to Crystal Palace.
