Lorent Tolaj is a top earner at Plymouth Argyle, with the striker attracting attention ahead of the summer transfer window.

Plymouth Argyle face an uphill battle to secure a top six finish in League One, although Tom Cleverley and his players will still believe it’s possible.

The Pilgrims endured a terrible first few months of the campaign following their relegation from the Championship, to the extent that Cleverley was under huge pressure.

But, the club stuck with the ex-Man Utd man, and that decision has been justified, as Argyle have kicked on, and they now sit four points outside the play-off places.

A key reason for Plymouth’s resurgence was the form of Lorent Tolaj, with the striker having been prolific since his arrival from Port Vale for around £1.2m.

Lorent Tolaj facing uncertain Plymouth future as transfer talk intensifies

A return of 15 goals in 25 games shows just influential Tolaj is, and, if Plymouth do fall short in their bid to reach the play-offs, they will wonder how different the season could have been if he hadn’t missed periods of the campaign through injury and suspension.

Either way, it seems Tolaj’s form has already caught the eye of potential suitors, as reports have revealed that several Championship clubs are keen on the 24-year-old, along with clubs in Europe.

Plymouth won’t want to sell their star man, and Tolaj signed a four-year contract at Home Park when he joined from Vale last year, so they aren’t under pressure in that sense.

However, if they can’t offer Championship football, it could be difficult to stand in the way of the player, who would see this as a great opportunity to make the next step in his career.

Lorent Tolaj could expect a big pay rise if he seals a Championship move from Plymouth

As well as giving him the chance to play at a higher level, and get closer to reaching the Premier League, a transfer from Plymouth this summer is certain to result in a pay rise for Tolaj.

Whilst we must stress that these figures are estimates, Salary Sport claim that Tolaj earns around £9,000 a week with Argyle, which makes him the highest earner at the club.

Obviously, that wouldn’t be too much of a surprise when you consider his importance to the team, and, generally, it will be the attacking players who command bigger wages.

That is a hefty weekly wage by League One standards, but it’s natural to think that Tolaj would be in line for a substantial increase if he did join a Championship club in the summer, which will tempt him if formal offers are submitted.

It’s unclear which clubs are keen on Tolaj, but even those not in the play-off places are paying big salaries to their players, according to estimates. For example, both Sheffield United and Wrexham are thought to have players on £30,000 a week, which gives an indication of how big a jump it is for players if they reach the Championship.

Of course, Plymouth will fight to keep hold of Tolaj, as they’re an ambitious club, but we know that money talks, and Tolaj was always going to have admirers due to his performances since his arrival.

So, there is a possibility that he will leave, particularly if they miss out on the play-offs. But, the one consolation for Plymouth is that they will make a significant profit on what they paid for Tolaj, and the striker will also land a bumper contract if he does get a move.
