Lorient 2-0 OM ratings: Dieng torments Balerdi and Marseille’s defence | OneFootball

Lorient punished a disjointed Marseille 2-0, with Bamba Dieng tormenting former team-mate Leonardo Balerdi as the visitors struggled to track the hosts’ runners. The Senegal international scored his first goal against his old club.

Yvon Mvogo made an early save on 10 minutes before Lorient struck. L'Équipe notes that Arthur Avom repeatedly released runners from deep, and a move involving Dieng ended with Panos Katseris sweeping in the opener on 28 minutes, his first of the season.

Katseris then teed up Dieng, whose point-blank effort was blocked by Geronimo Rulli on 49 minutes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed on 53 and clipped the side-netting on 55. On 58 minutes, Pagis released Dieng, Balerdi’s offside appeal failed, and a deft chip made it 2-0, his ninth of 2026, after Amine Gouiri had ceded possession.

Avom’s distribution and graft, including six recoveries, underpinned Lorient’s threat, while Katseris’ surges stretched a ragged visiting back line. Mvogo made two saves, on 10 and 50 minutes, and controlled his area with authority.

Marseille’s leaders floundered. Balerdi’s positioning on the first goal and his reaction on the second reflected broader defensive passivity, while Abdelli, starting with Quinten Timber absent, struggled before Bilal Nadir replaced him on 59 minutes.

Aubameyang had only 20 touches before Ugo el-Kadmiri came on at 76 minutes. Gouiri was withdrawn for Ethan Nwaneri on 59, the teenager shooting wide on 72. Dieng celebrated with restraint and departed on 75 for Aiyegun Tosin after a tireless shift.
