The Los Angeles Galaxy have seen quite a few changes over the years to their roster. Players have come and gone.

The team saw Jonathan Bond depart following the terrible 2023 MLS regular season. That year, the LA Galaxy only won eight games.

They brought in the 2022 MLS Cup Finals MVP, John McCarthy, to replace Bond. Thier backup has already been there the past two years and is playing in his third with LA Galaxy.

One backup goalie has been a part of the team for three seasons now.

Why Micovic's first win was just as important to him as the LA Galaxy?

The defending MLS Cup champions had aspirations of another deep playoff run. Instead, it took them 17 games into the season to see their first win.

It took almost that many career starts for the Serbian goalkeeper to taste victor, as well.

As the LA Galaxy were prepared to move on from Jonathan Bond at the end of the 2023 season, Micovic started the team's last two games.

Neither went in his favor as they settled on a 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake and lost 4-1 against FC Dallas in the season finale.

Micovic also only recorded two starts in the 2024 MLS regular season. Both games went much better for him and his team. The LA Galaxy goalie recorded his first clean sheet on May 18, 2024 during the 0-0 draw at Charlotte.

Just weeks later, he then suffered defeat, 2-1, on the road against the Chicago Fire on June 1st. Micovic hasn't received a ton of support by the offense, either.

To open up this season, the LA Galaxy scored just one goal in their first three games. All of those contests resulted in a loss and happened to be when Micovic was in goal.

With his second career clean sheet and shutout, his four saves led the way for the Los Angeles Galaxy to be in the win column for the first time since the 2024 MLS Cup Finals, nearly six months later.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. The bright young star may take over as McCarthy is a free agent after this season. Regardless, the LA Galaxy need a dependable stopper in the net if they want to return to an unprecedented 11th MLS Cup Finals appearance.
