Sheffield Wednesday forward Louie Barry shared his delight on social media after being reunited with Mason Burstow at Hillsborough.

It has been an incredibly busy summer for Sheffield Wednesday under new owner David Storch.

After a nightmare season for Wednesday that saw them suffer relegation from the Championship and spend over six months in administration, Storch's Arise Capital Partners consortium completed their takeover of the club in May, marking the start of a new era at Hillsborough.

Storch has wasted no time in getting to work at Hillsborough, and after making the decision to stick with manager Henrik Pedersen, he brought in David Bruce as CEO and Simon Wilson as sporting director.

The first task for Wednesday's new backroom team has been to rebuild a threadbare squad, and they have brought in 12 new signings so far this summer, with Joe Lumley, Connal Trueman, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Ricardo Santos, Sil Swinkels, Jordi Liongola, Billy Mitchell, Callum Slattery, Barry Bannan, Louie Barry, Harry Gray and Mason Burstow all arriving in S6.

Burstow became the Owls' latest addition when he joined on a season-long loan from Premier League side Hull City, and he arrives on the back of a successful loan spell with Bolton Wanderers, during which he helped them to promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

The 22-year-old scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 53 appearances for the Trotters, but that has not proven to be enough for him to force his way into Sergej Jakirovic's plans for the top flight at the MKM Stadium, and he will be returning to the third tier in the upcoming campaign with Wednesday.

After making his breakthrough at Charlton Athletic, Burstow made the move to Premier League giants Chelsea, but he was unable to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, and he made a permanent move to Hull City in the summer of 2024 after returning from a loan spell at Sunderland.

The Tigers paid a reported fee of £2 million for Burstow, but he scored just two goals and provided one assist in 32 appearances in his debut season in East Yorkshire as the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship before joining Bolton on loan last summer.

As Burstow prepares to begin his latest loan stint, he will be reunited with one familiar face at Hillsborough, having played with another of Wednesday's summer signings, Louie Barry, during his time at Hull.

Like Burstow, Barry also had a frustrating spell with the Tigers as he made just four appearances before his loan was cut short by a knee injury, but while they only spent a brief period together at the MKM Stadium, it seems the pair formed a strong relationship.

After Burstow's move to the Owls was confirmed on Friday, Barry took to social media to share his reaction to being reunited with his former Hull team-mate, writing on his Instagram story: "Wowww", accompanied by a heart eyes emoji, an owl emoji and a blue heart emoji.

Burstow performed well for Bolton last season as he scored 12 goals in their promotion-winning campaign, but given the amount of chances the Trotters created, it could be argued that his tally should have been higher.

It was the first time in Burstow's career that he reached double figures for goals in a single season, suggesting that he is developing as he gains more experience of senior football, and it would be no surprise to see him improve further with Wednesday this season, particularly if he can form a productive partnership with Barry.
