Sunderland have not agreed a deal for Lucas Bergvall, with talk of an imminent move understood to be wide of the mark.
Football Insider had suggested the Black Cats submitted a bid before striking an agreement, also crediting Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest with interest. However, no agreement is in place and that account does not reflect Sunderland’s current transfer position.
Bergvall would be a highly ambitious target for Régis Le Bris’ side. The 20-year-old is valued at around £50million and Tottenham are likely to seek the strongest terms, having signed him from Djurgården in 2024 on a contract running to 2031. That deal leaves the London club in a powerful negotiating position.
The Swede can operate across central midfield and is widely viewed as one of his country’s standout prospects. His age, technical quality and potential resale value appear to align with Sunderland’s recruitment model, and further additions are expected before the window closes.
Thomas Meunier remains the only senior arrival so far, with Florent Ghisolfi signalling a more measured approach after last summer’s overhaul. For now, claims that Sunderland have reached a full agreement for Bergvall can be set aside.
