Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Hernandez (28) has undergone successful surgery on his knee following his team’s UEFA Champions League semi final against Borussia Dortmund (1-1), in which the Frenchman sustained an ACL tear.

Hernandez travelled to Austria to be operated on by renowned specialist Cristian Fink, and will now begin a recovery and rehabilitation process. He is expected to be out of action for several months given the severity of the injury.

Before this week’s setback, the Frenchman had made 41 appearances in all competitions for the French champions, becoming an integral part of Luis Enrique’s defence and a team that continues to chase the treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France, in which they face Olympique Lyonnais in the final on May 25th, and the much coveted Champions League, with a home second leg against Dortmund to come.

Hernandez’s injury is also bad news for L’Équipe de France, with Didier Deschamps forced to reassess his defensive picks for the forthcoming  EURO 2024 in Germany, with the deadline for squad lists fixed for the 15th May.
