Lucas Paquetá wanted to return to Flamengo

Lucas Paquetá, 28, has revealed that he wanted to return to Flamengo this summer after being cleared of match-fixing allegations.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has played for West Ham since the summer of 2022, scoring 22 goals and providing 14 assists in 132 appearances. Paquetá explained:

I had a strong desire to come back to Flamengo and I talked about it with my friend and coach Filipe Luís. But I chose to respect West Ham, who stood by me. I know the doors will always be open for me, and I will return one day.

The player has also scored 12 goals in 59 appearances for Brazil. His current contract with West Ham runs until 2027, with an option for an extra year.
