Lucas Silvestre, son and assistant of Dorival Júnior, thanked Corinthians supporters and reflected on their trophies after the coach’s dismissal following the 1-0 defeat to Internacional at Neo Química Arena.
According to Meu Timao, Silvestre addressed reporters at CT Joaquim Grava on Monday, calling it a wonderful spell at the club, praising the backing from the stands and wishing the players success.
Silvestre stood in for Dorival three times across 11 months, recording one win and two defeats. Under Dorival, Corinthians posted a 50% return, with 25 wins, 19 draws and 19 defeats, scoring 67 and conceding 56.
The change comes amid Corinthians’ worst run since 2007, a sequence of nine matches without a win this season. In that span they went out in the Copa do Brasil semi-finals to Novorizontino and failed to win any of three home games in Itaquera.
Even so, Dorival and Silvestre depart with the 2025 Copa do Brasil, won against Vasco da Gama in December, and the Supercopa do Brasil, secured versus Flamengo in February.
The report said Fernando Diniz is expected to replace Dorival Júnior, having been out of work since February after leaving Vasco da Gama, and that he will sign a contract running to the end of 2026.
Corinthians return on Thursday for their Libertadores group opener away to Argentina’s Platense at the Ciudad de Vicente López, kick off 21:00.
