Lucía Gómez García, born in Castelló on 11 October 1996, has retired and was honoured by Villarreal Femenino. Her decision ends a resilient career across Villarreal CF and Levante UD.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, she came through Villarreal’s academy, played from 2006 to 2014, spent eight seasons at Levante UD, then returned in 2022 to play Primera División with Villarreal. She will take the positives, from European and World tournaments to reaching the top flight.
Her path was disrupted by serious injuries. She returned on 30 September 2023 after more than two years out, defying doubts she would play again.
Villarreal CF, where she first kicked a ball and even played with boys, remains central to her identity. Trained as a sports psychologist, she aims to stay connected to the club and the sport.
Meanwhile, dates are set for the promotion play-off to Primera División, featuring the Villarreal Femenino of Jordi Ferriols. It will begin once the Primera Federación regular season ends, with four teams chasing one place alongside Alavés Deportivo.
The final round is on Saturday at 16.00 in a unified slot. Around 18.00, Villarreal will know their opponent, from Osasuna, Alba FF, or SE AEM, who have the harder task.
Villarreal will play the semi-final away on 10 May, then the return on 17 May at the Mini Estadi. If they progress, the final is scheduled for 24 and 31.
